History of Positive Thinking |
The History of positive thinking begins when humans started to think. However it is credited to have begun in America as a concept of self improvement during the great depression of the late "20s". There were 2 initial books that spread the concept. One that still is very popular is "How to win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie and the other one was Dorothea Brandes "Wake Up and Live".
There were also several public speakers that took the concept to more popularity and it was mixed with religious discourses. There were also religious publications that touched on a positive mindset as a way to improve human growth and achievement, the most popular was the philosopher William James "Religion of Healthy Mindedness" published in 1902. And there were other people that used the concept of positive thinking in their lectures and sermons.
Positive thiking emerged from religious dissertations and came as a concept for personal improvement when Orison Marden published his success magazine in 1891. Emile Couse, referred him as the father of all inspirational thinking, but it is mainly credited for bringing positive thinking to the for front as a self help method in 1920s.
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale
Now the concept of positive thinking in modern days owes its popularity to Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. He promoted the concept in its publication "Guidelines and with his many public lectures on this concept more than 60 years ago.
Dr Peales famous book, "The Power of Positive Thinking" is still one of the best sources of reference for information on this subject. His extensive lecture and seminars around the USA, were responsible for making positive thinking very popular and mainstream. His Center for Positive Thinking carries an important work by disseminating excellent programs that teach people how to achieve a positive mindset.
With the internet nowadays its easier to find information of positive thinking and read many professional articles and books that have been written over the years. There are some downloable courses and even seminars that you can attend for further learning.
